They scan and make available a lot of out of copyright old needlework books? (I'm pretty sure you've seen the site, if not familiar with the group). Mostly the discussion is about issues to do with the scanned books, but there was a rich technical discussion on a Victorian technique ("Lining like a Victorian") for a few days last week. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/antiquepatternlibrary/ If they can't help you directly, they may/should be able to direct you to books on their site that can.
