Not a lot made in the last days, I'm spending most of my free time researching about historical stitches and materials used, having lost a lot of time reading and testing uncorrect istructions referred to detached buttonhole/ trellis needlelace that were given for historical reproduction but where in reality modern versions of those stitches and not the original ones.

As possible will post about this with a little polemic....

By now, here is the Tudor rose mounted i the lid box, the Parrot progress and my new,larger, stitching tools case.

Also an idea for a thread waxer made with a real mother of pearl shell container; I did it when I could not achieve a autentic vintage one, have you seen those lovely ivory carved or mother of pearls one ?? love them, but unlucky in auctions, so this works fine too and is unexpensive.

The shell is one used for making bijoux bought in a little market, just fuse the beeswax in, clean a little and is done !

A Victorian frame for Morris project

Morris project has now a new frame, have found it from an antique store on Ebay and comes directly from England.
Love the "taste" of the old things and the idea that another stitcher in the past was sitting in front of it working on her project.....

Mine is still a long way to go !

Raised embroidery progress

Sun an clouds are nearly completed, only the right side little cloud is still on the way.

I started padding all with beige felt, then I couched the Japanese gilt thread for the body of the sun.

The rays are made with gilt whipped plate. A pearl purl surround completes all.

The left cloud was made using single Brussel stitch needlelace.

The other clouds where made with cotton/linen slub thread from Stef Francis using natural colour and an overdyed one; about the overdyed I have used part of it cutting pieces of thread that where right in colour and not the entire strand.

Then I have surrounded the clouds with DMC Desirè memory thread; it's a nice stuff made of a thin copper core wire wrapped with a coloured thread, this was colour 6030.
I still not have found the right gimp thread made of silk that are the correct historical material for this kind of embroidery, the one I have bought from Texere yarns is too thick and uneven.
I decided that don't want to become crazy trying to find all the exact materials used in the old times but I want to learn the tecniques and most important....have fun !
I'm trying to do my best about this but must not be an obsession, don't you think so ?

Life is .....what happens meanwhile you are making other projects, isn't this true ?
In my case I was planning to have a quiet period dedicated to my job, family and embroidery and....I had the three last months full of things that I could never imagine; mother in law ill and then passed, my old mother changed her home, an insane man stalked me and my husband, something else ? these are only few words but has been a really complicate and difficult moment... BUT...is gone !
Seems we all are back to a normal life, so I'm here again writing on Blog, have worked a little on my projects and will post soon some pictures.
Hope that the new year will be for all us a good year !

New threads

Have received some new threads for my Stumpwork project: on left side the ones coming from an Ebay seller:

they are silk bouclè, silk chenille and cotton perlè in 3 thickness plus a stranded one.

On right side threads from Stef Francis, overdyed and naturals that I can paint with silk painting colours; have made a test and the result is nice.

I'm still not ready to start and still not sure about the other colours that I will use in this work.

Need time to arrange the whole thing ....

Have made some changes to the pattern shown in previous post, the new one is more balanced I believe.

What I did yesterday ? Have traced the design on silk duchesse and came out very well but....which pattern ? The wrong one !!! I mean the first I did and not the last corrected...aaaarrrrghhhh, so a beautiful peace of silk is to throw away, the pen was a permanent one.

I'm having a bad cold and, for next time, have learned that when you don't feel well is better to stay in bed instead of making delicate embroidery things !

Historical raised embroidery

I know, I have been away from Blog for a month but was totally focused on an embroidery technique that was all new for me, historical raised embroidery, in modern times also known as Stumpwork.
My interest is on old raised embroidery that was made around 1650 -1700, mostly in England; those masterpieces where always worked on a silk fabric ground and stitched with silk floss, silk bouclè, silk wrapped purls, silk gimps, perlè, gold threads and other hand made threads plus a variety of applied materials like shells, feathers, shisha mirrors, ivory, beads an so on.
The patterns to be stitched where generally a commission design made by a professional person for the ladies who wanted to make theirs personal jewellery boxes or caskets.
The designs are very similiar one to the other and the various elements are repeated in different embroidery, probably because the same hands have made them for different people.
So the main elements are fountain with rocks, castles, lion, insects, figures, fruit trees, sun with clouds, birds, butterflies...
As always research is not easy, books to buy, materials hard to find and new kind of stitches to learn, but finally I'm nearly ready to start my new project.
I choose the lower part of an unfinished frame for a mirror, making little adjustments and adding a different surrounding frame:

The panel will be stitched on heavy Italian ivory silk duchesse, backed with medium weight calico using many of the traditional threads that where used in the past plus gold threads and spangles ; in the next post will show you about, still waiting to receive them.

Tudor rose completed!

A long time without posting but many things needed my attention, time is never enough!

Here is the little rose, I have preferred a more pink version instead of the traditional red and white; I'm waiting to have back the metal ring that surrounds the lid of the box, I've sent it to made it gold plated, so I'll be able to mount the embroidery and complete the box.

Pensavo di cavarmela rapidamente e invece sto impiegando ore ed ore per terminarla, è piccola ma sembra non finire mai ! Sarà perchè con il caldo è tutto più faticoso e la stanchezza di un anno comincia a farsi sentire....
Ho deciso di utilizzare il filo Japanese per riempiere i petali, il numero 4 per i più grandi e il numero 2 per i piccoli (reperibili da Midori Embroidery), il contorno sarà poi con il Pearl purl, il n.1 oppure il super per i petali esterni e il very fine per quelli interni.
Chip work per il cuore con il Bright check n.7
Continuo a lavorare ....a presto !

I thought this was a speedy embroidery but I'm taking so many hours to complete it, it's small but never ending ! Maybe because here is so hot and I'm tired for the entire year of work...
I've decided to use Japanese thread to fill petals, n. 4 for larger ones and n.2 for smaller ( threads from Midori Embroidery in UK), the outlining will be in pearl purl, n.1 or super for the ouside and very fine for the inside.
Chip work for the centre with Bright check n.7.
Back to work....will write soon !

Tudor Rose

La rosa Tudor è sempre stata una delle mie preferite ed era da tempo che avevo in mente di ricamarne una.

Poi c'era una scatola tonda in vetro satinato con il coperchio da ricamare della DMC che avevo comprato a Milano moltissimi anni fa e che apettava in un cassetto di essere finalmente "vestita", così l'accoppiata è stata vincente, complice anche la rosa Tudor che sta ricamando Mary Corbet che mi è stata d'ispirazione.

E' grande appena 5 cm, le imbottiture per l'oro sono pronte e il punto pittura sui petali procede.

The Tudor rose has always been one of my favourite and I wanted to stitch one for a long time.

Plus there was a round DMC satin glass box waiting in a drawer, I bought it so many years ago in Milan and it was waiting to be "dressed"; so the decision was automatic, guilty also the Tudor rose project that Mary Corbet is doing in those days that have inspired me.

Is only 2 inch , padding is done and long and short stitch is proceeding.

Ho trovato questo schema nel libro di Elizabeth Bradley - Decorative Victorian Needlepoint e visto che non avevo mai ricamato animali soprattutto a mezzo punto, l'ho iniziato e mi sto divertendo molto. Il mezzo punto è così veloce e facile e poi non stanca gli occhi !
Ho utilizzato il canovaccio Interlock 18 ct con lana Appleton crewel come indicato nello schema.

I have found this pattern in Elizabeth Bradley - Decorative Victorian Needlepoint book, I have never stitched animals before specially in needlepoint so, why not ? I'm having fun with it, is so fast and easy to work and my eyes can have a rest !

I'm using Interlock 18 ct canvas and Appleton crewel wool called for.

Me lo ha prestato una carissima amica che ha una libreria incredibile, è pieno di immagini di antichi schemi vittoriani da ricamare a piccolo punto o a punto croce, si chiama "A piccoli Punti" di Raffaella Serena.
Peccato che solo alcuni di essi hanno lo schema vero e proprio con la lista dei colori, ma con un pò di pazienza e fantasia si possono comunque utilizzare, ce ne sono tantissimi !

A dearest friend that has an incredible bookcase gived it to me, it's full of pictures of old victorian patterns to stitch in needlepoint or cross stitch. Title is "A piccoli punti "by Raffaella Serena.

It's a pity that just for some of them a chart with colours symbols is given, but with a little patience is still possible to use them , they are so much !

Meraviglia dal passato - A wonder from the past

Nell'ultimo mese mi sono incuriosita riguardo a un tipo di ricamo di epoca vittoriana, denominato Berlin woolwork oppure Victorian needlepoint. E' realizzato a mezzo punto o punto croce con la lana , in genere su canovaccio e utilizza dei colori molto brillanti .
Le immagini di questo ricamo in particolare eseguito a punto croce , mostrano anche delle parti lavorate con le perline su lino anzichè canovaccio e i bellissimi fiori a rilievo sono ottenuti con un punto chiamato Plush stitch che da alla superifice l'aspetto del pelouche.
E quì chiedo aiuto a voi: avete idea di come sia realizzato questo punto ?? Ho trovato qualcosa sul web, ma non ci ho capito granchè.....
Spero di avervi incuriosito, che meraviglie venivano create dalle signore vittoriane, non credete ??

In the last month I've been envolved on a kind of embroidery from the Victorian period, called Berlin woolwork or Victorian needlepoint. Is generally stitched on canvas in tent or cross stitch and uses bright wools colours.
The pictures of this work in particular is made in cross stitch and shows also some parts embroidered with beads on linen instead of canvas and the beautiful flowers are raised and where stitched in Plush stitch.
And at this point I'm asking your help: anyone knows how this stitch is done??
Have found something on the web, but was not very clear to me.
Hope you found this interesting, what fantastic works Victorian ladies where able to do, don't you think ??

A volte mi prendono dei momenti in cui ho mi annoio dei lavori che sto facendo e non posso fare a meno di pensare a qualcosa di nuovo; la cosa mi piace molto ma poi ricomincia l'ennesimo conflitto pensando che ho già varie cose cominciate, troppe, e mi chiedo quando le terminerò....come va a finire ? Con un bel " chi se ne importa, mi devo divertire!" e così dopo aver guardato decine di immagini e vari rimuginamenti più diverse ore di disegno....eccolo !!

Un nuovo progetto in ricamo Crewel di discrete dimensioni è 50X70 cm, il twill di lino è già in viaggio e le lane saranno Appleton, la scelta dei colori fatta per ora è limitata alla zona del terreno.

I punti ??ancora non lo so, vedrò andando avanti.

E voi ? vi succede lo stesso o sono malata grave??

Sometimes I have moments wich I'm bored with the projects I'm doing and can't stay without thinking about something new to do; I love the situation but after I always feel guilty because have begun so many works and I'm asking to myself when will I complete them....how ends ? Saying " I don't care, want to have fun!" and so, after looking to dozens photos and many "mumble, mumble" plus many hours drawing....here it is !!

A new poject in Crewel embroidery, the dimension is 50x70 cm , linen twill is already on the way, wool will be Appleton and the choice of colours is done at this time only for the ground.

Stitches ?? still don't know, will see going on.

What about you ? have the same situation or I'm seriously ill??

Ikea flexi lamp

Era un pò che cercavo questo tipo di lampada da poter pinzare sul telaio e gironzolando all'Ikea...eccola! Temevo che fosse la solita lucetta per leggere e invece guardate al buio che cono di luce che fa ! E' a led della durata di 50.000 ore poi si butta, ma credo che sarò vecchia quando avrò ricamato per tutto quel tempo, costa circa € 25 ed è comodissima e maneggevole.

Presto qualche aggiornamento lavori, è un periodo un pò frenetico....

Was time that I was looking for a small clip on lamp to make light on my frame and walking around at Ikea...I found it ! I was afraid that it was not so bright but you can see the light in the dark, its great ! Works with led for 50.000 hours, I'll be old when I could have stitched for all that time, the cost is around € 25 its very handy and I really like it.

Soon will post some embroidery updates, I'm always running in those days...

Seta ! - Silk!

Chi ama ricamare con la seta non ne ha mai abbastanza e la curiosità di provarne di nuove è incontenibile.

Ho trovato un sito francese che ne aveva una serie bellissima chiamata Soie Perlée, 450 colori suddivisi in gradazioni, perfetto per la tipologia di ricamo che sto facendo in questo periodo ma ottima anche per il punto croce, si chiama http://www.fildesoie.fr/ e una matassina costa €2,50 per 24 metri a filo unico non divisibile.

Quando ho visto la matassina con sorpresa ho realizzato sembra essere lo stesso tipo venduto dagli inglesi di http://www.thesilkmill.com/ dove costa £ 2,50 per 6,5 mt a sei capi, quindi 39 mt se fosse un filo unico.

La differenza economica tra le due è minima al metro, ma il vantaggio della versione francese è che le gradazioni di colore sono facilmente identificabili sulla cartella colori del sito, mentre con la seta inglese è molto più difficile sia per come sono configurate sia per la numerazione non progressiva.
Entrambe sono "filament silk" ovvero a filatura lunga, a torsione a Z ed hanno una grande lucentezza, lo spessore è simile a un capo di Soie d'Alger.

Have found a french web who sells a lovely selection called Soie Perlée, 450 shades divided in colour families, perfect for the kind of embroidery I'm making in this period but also perfect for cross stitch, its:

When I saw the skein I've been surprised in realizing that it looks the same silk sold by http://www.thesilkmill.com/ where a skein costs £ 2,50 per 6,5 meters 6 strands, so 24 meters single thread.

The price difference between them is minimal, but the great advantage of the french version is that the shades in the various colour families are very easy to understand on the colour card available on the website, instead of the english version that is not progressive numbered and I found much more difficult to buy a colour in the various shades.

Both are filament silk, Z twist and have a lovely shine, the thickness is similar to one strand of Soie d'Alger

Potrei definirlo "il tormento e l'estasi" perchè questo lavoro è un vero chiodo fisso, ma riesco a lavorarci solo in momenti di tranquillità trattandosi di un ricamo grande, scomodo da movimentare , per il quale non ho istruzioni pronte per l'uso e devo sempre ragionare su quello che devo fare.

Ma quando poi quando l'ago prende il via, il tempo passa in un attimo ed è un vero piacere !

I could define it my "trouble and ecstasy" because this project is so fixed in my mind, but I can work on it only in very quiet moments because it's a big stuff, not easy to move, don't have ready to use instructions and always have to think about what I'm going to do next.

But when the needle starts to go, time flows away and its a real pleasure!

Ho trovato questo progetto sulla rivista Broderie Inspirations e non ho potuto resistere....ho cambiato i colori originali per semplificare la reperibilità dei materiali e così ho utilizzato la lana della Renaissance Dyeing, è un piacere ricamare con questa lana!

I have found this project on Broderie Inspirations and I could not resist...I have changed the colours of the wool because was much easy for me to get them so have used Renaissance Dyeing, it's a pleasure to stitch with this wool !

Ho preparato un disegno per un'altra fragola, eccovi lo schema e le istruzioni, cliccare per ingrandire e stampare, le dimensioni del disegno sono da un estremo all'altro, di 25 cm.

Aggiornamento lavori in corso - Updates on work in progress

Sono mancata per un pò, pur non essendomi mossa da quì...sempre troppe cose da fare o problemi da risolvere, ma credo che sia una realtà comune un pò a tutti.

Ho cercato comunque di portare un pò avanti tutti i vari ricami che ho cominciato, troppi! così mi succede di lavorare poco su ciascuno e non li vedo mai "crescere" come vorrei, per non parlare poi delle mille idee che mi girano in testa...mi devo dare tregua!

Presto un aggiornamento per ognuno nelle varie tecniche.

I've been away for a while but never really moved from here...always too much things to do or problems to resolve, but I think it's a common reality.

I tryed to work on all the projects I have on the way, too much! so happens that I cannot do so much on each and I don't see them growing as I woulld like, for not talking about the hundreds of idea that are turning in my mind...must keep calm!

Atmosfera di Natale - Christmas atmosphere

E' già ovunque atmosfera di Natale ed anche la casa si veste dei colori della festa perchè sì, quest'anno sarà festa visto che lo scorso anno è stato un Natale un pò così, di quelli non piacevoli da ricordare. Ora i miei problemi di salute vanno decisamente meglio e così torna il buon umore e la voglia di "sentire" il Natale che arriva.
Eccola quà la mia casa pronta con tutti quei lavoretti a punto croce e patchwork realizzati negli anni passati ....BUONE FESTE A TUTTI !!

Everywhere you can feel the Christmas atmosphere and also the home is dressed in the colours of the festivity because yes, this year will be a great Christmas because last year has been one of those that I don't remember with pleasure. Now my health is going much better and I'm more decided to feel Christams coming.

E' il progetto di un piccolo pannello che va avanti da un pò, ricamato su un lino antico in seta Pearsall's e filati in oro; non vedo l'ora di terminarlo per potermi dedicare unicamente al "gigante" Morris....

It's a project for a small panel that is going on from some months, is stitched on an old piece of linen in Pearsall's silk and gold threads; can't wait to see it finished so I could be focused on the "giant" Morris.....

E' quello che mi viene in mente ogni volta che prendo l'ago per lavorare su questo progetto e mi domando : "avrò la costanza di portarlo a fine? "....quello che è certo è che di tempo ce ne vorrà un bel pò ma ho deciso di mettere da parte le domande e "godermi il viaggio" senza pensare all'arrivo!

Quante volte nell'organizzare i materiali necessari al lavoro mi ero chiesta : "chissà chi avrà ricamato l'originale ? quanto mi piacerebbe poterle chiedere cosa hai usato quì ? che tessuto è ? " e così via ma come dico sempre " se cerchi e non trovi , prima o poi quello che cerchi troverà te" e infatti.....qualche giorno fa ho ricevuto una email sorprendente.

Mi ha scritto Rosie Taylor-Davies, "le mani" eccezionali che hanno ricamato il bellissimo vestito dell'installazione voluta dalla Artangel, la quale, chissà come, deve aver visto ciò che sto facendo e lo ha segnalato a Rosie. E così mi sono potuta sfogare e tutte le risposte alle mie domande sono arrivate - grazie Rosie per la tua disponibilità !

Ecco la prima goccia nell'oceano....

Mi piacerebbe sapere che ne pensate,

It's what I think everytime I pick up the needle and work on this project and ask to myself: "will I bring this to the end?".....surely will take a lot of time but I have decided to put away all the questions and "enjoy the trip" .

How many times when I was arranging all the materials needed for this embroidery I have asked to myself : " who did the original project ? how would I like to ask her what have you used here ? what fabric is this? " and so on .....but as I always say " if you are looking for something that you cannot find, after or later that something will find you" and infact....some days ago I've received a surprising email.

Was from Rosie Taylor-Davies, "the hands" that have embroidered the wonderful gown for the Artangel project; they probably have seen what I'm doing and linked to her.

So I could have all the answers I was looking for - thank you Rosie for your great courtesy!

E' passato già un mese dall'ultimo post e il tempo è sempre così poco....sto trascorrendo le mie vacanze a casa - finalmente! - lavorando full time a tutte le cose che mi piace fare.

Meglio di così ??

Purtroppo ho a disposizione soltanto una connessione ad internet lentissima e non posso postare tutto in dettaglio ma....vi do un piccolo assaggio.

Avevo bisogno di una borsa portalavoro e...quale migliore occasione per provare a fare il mio primo Log Cabin ?? Detto e fatto, come sempre più lungo di quanto mi aspettassi anche perchè in questi casi il noviziato rallenta parecchio.

Eccola anche se con varie imperfezioni, ma mi sono divertitaaaa !!

I was needing a bag to carry my embroidery stuff and...what a better occasion for trying to do my first Log Cabin ?? As always has been longer than what I could imagine also because I'm not trained in this.

Here it is also if with many imperfections, but I had fun !!!

Appena vidi il link al video sul blog Needleprint restai fulminata, dovevo assolutamente riuscire a realizzare quella meraviglia.....
Si tratta di un progetto della Artangel, nel quale è stato realizzato il ricamo che vedete e che riproduce fedelmente il modello Windrush di William Morris, collegato al libro The concise dictionary of dress; purtroppo non ho ben capito di cosa si parli nel libro per via della lingua....

When I saw the link to the video on Needleprint Blog, I've been astonished. I absolutely have to realize such beauty...
It's about a project from Artangel, wich has realized the embroidery that you see that is a reproduction of the William Morris design Windrush; this is collegated with the book The concise dictionary of dress; unfortunately I didn't understand well what the book is talking about because of the language....

Ovviamente capire COME fare da pochi secondi di un video non è cosa facile, ad oggi è passato un mese e sono "quasi" pronta a mettere i primi punti.

Of course understanding HOW to do from few seconds of a video is not a simple thing, at today one month is gone and I'm nearly ready to put the first stitches.

Vi racconto la mia piccola odissea....

I will tell you my little odyssey....

Ho iniziato recuperando il disegno originale di Morris e stampando le immagini utili del video; ho fatto vari ingrandimenti fino a raggiungere una dimensione che mi consentisse di lavorare i piccoli dettagli, poi l'ho ridisegnato decidendo cosa ricamare e cosa non, facendo attenzione a creare una forma armonica, 3 giorni !

I've started recovering the original Morris's design and printing some images from the video; I did some enlargments untill I had a dimension that allows me to work on the small parts, then I redraw all deciding what to stitch and what not, making attention to obtain an armonic shape, 3 days!

2. decidere il tipo di tessuto, doveva avere una trama non troppo evidente, peso, consistenza e colore giusti : Zweigart Normandy avorio la scelta ,tessuto in lino e cotone, doppiato con del batista.

2. choosing the fabric, it must have a plain wave, weight, strong and right colour; Zweigart Normandy ivory was my choice, a linen-cotton fabric, doubled with a fine muslin.

3. disegnare il ricamo posizionando il disegno sotto al tessuto e facendovi passare attraerso la luce in modo da poterlo tracciare con un pennarello indelebile sottilissimo 0.03.

3. tracing the design onto the fabric, putting the drawing under the fabric with a source of light, tracing it with a fineliner 0.03.

4. montare il tessuto sul telaio.

4. mount the fabric on the frame.

5. preparare le imbottiture delle foglie.
Ho utilizzato del feltro color panna, stabilizzato con il Vliesofix. Ha l'aspetto della carta forno ed ha uno strato biadesivo, si stira sul tessuto e si toglie via la carta, si può lasciare così oppure stirare ancora praticamente a sandwich tra due tessuti. Ha il vantaggio che ci si può disegnare sopra e una volta stirato,lo strato di la carta consente di tagliare il tessuto seguendo perfettamente la sagoma, inoltre la stoffa non sfrangia.
Quindi le imbottiture sono fatte con : sotto feltro, in mezzo Vliesofix, sopra Normandy, tagliate perfettamente a misura e disegno.

5. preparing the padding for the leaves.
I have used ivory felt, stabilized with Vliesofix. This is a self adesive paper that must be ironed, the paper is peel off and is possible to leave it as is or iron it again as a sandwich between the two fabrics. The advantage is that you can draw on the paper and once ironed, the paper allows to cut the fabric following the drawing very precisely and the fabric does not fray.
So the padding are made: under felt, middle Vliesofix, over Normandy.

6. cucire le imbottiture con dei piccolissimi punti nella posizione dovuta.

7. decidere i colori e il tipo di filati.
Quì è stata dura, non avendo a disposizione il campionario della Soie d'Alger e non avendo un negozio a Roma che la venda, incredibile vero ??
Così ho dovuto acquistare da A et A in Francia una serie di colori "possibili", un metro per ciascuno in modo da poter decidere, vincolata a questa seta perchè ha una lucentezza media che si adatta a questo lavoro e al fatto che ha un'ampia gamma in cui scegliere.

Altro problema il colore di fondo, importantissimo ! non volevo utilizzare la Soie d'alger perchè comunque non la amo in modo particolare , preferisco il Silk Mori oppure la Pearsall's, ,ma in questo caso non c'era il colore per la prima e la seconda era troppo lucida per un fondo.
Che fare ?? Ho azzardato delle prove ed ha funzionato: lana fina per crewel della Reinassance Dyeing, colore Woad, lavorato a punto raso, successivamente ben stirata per appiattirla.

Questa ditta tinge artigianalmente una bellissima lana merinos utilizzando ancora estratti naturali, in particolare il Woad che è proprio il tono di blu usato da Morris.
Così ho mandato alla ditta il campione della matassina che avevo per far preparare 500 mt dello stesso bagno di colore, sicuramente saranno troppi ma meglio non rischiare.

7. choosing colours and type of threads.
Has been a hard work because I don't have a colour card for Soie d'Alger and in Rome there isn't a store that carries it, incredible isn't ??
So I had to buy from A et A in France some "possible" colours, one meter for each so I could make my choice; this was the only silk I could use because has a medium shine that well fits on this kind of embroidery and also has a large selection of colours.

Another problem was the background, that is so important! I didn't want to use Soie d'Alger because I don't like it so much anyway; I most like Silk Mori or Pearsall's, but the first didn't have the right shades and the second was too shining for a background.
What to do ?? I made some try and one worked well: fine crewel wool from reinassance Dyeing, Woad colour, long and short stitch, after well ironed.

This company hand dyes a beautifull fine merinos wool, still using natural extracts, in special way the Woad that is the blue used from Morris.
So I have sent them a sample of the skein that I have purchased in the past and they will dye for me 500 mt of the same shade, will be too much but more is better than less.

- Substitute Japanese T 70 rame per i rami bruni

- Gilt Twist n.1 per il contorno delle foglie e del fiore grande

-Gilt Twist n.1 outlining of the leaves and big flower

- Gold 2% Paillettes

-Gold 2% Spangles

- Mill Hill Magnifica glass beads colore 10080 rame, cucite sopra le spangles

-Mill Hill Magnifica glass beads colour 10080 copper, to couch over the spangles

- Gold 2% Elizabethan twist, ancora non sono sicura, forse per il contorno delle foglie piccole del ramage a punto raso.

-Gold 2% Elizabethan twist, I'm still not sure about it, maybe for the outlining of the small leaves in satin stitch

e poi si vedrà strada facendo.....e di strada ce nè un bel pò da fare, ma non vedo l'ora !

Sono riuscita ad aggiudicarmi un'asta online per questo tavolino da lavoro della fine dell' '800 per una somma ridicola, anche se era ridotto in condizioni pietose.

Questi oggetti hanno un fascino speciale, chissà a chi è appartenuto...

Dopo un serio lavoro di restauro eccolo nel suo ritrovato splendore !

Il ricamo Blooms for Sarah di Blackbird Design era già in attesa di essere posizionato; è realizzato su lino Belfast antique ivory con filato Threadworks.

Le stoffe all'interno sono di Moda, Portobello Market.

I have been lucky to win an online auction for this working table, aged end of '800 for a very little money, also if it was really destroyed.

This object have a special fascination, who knows to who it is belonged ....

After a serious restore here it is in all his beauty !

The embroidery Blooms for Sarah by Blackbird Design was ready for his location; is stitched on Belfast linen antique ivory with Treadworks floss.

Il giardino - The garden

Anche quest'anno la fatica fatta è stata ricompensata, fucsie, aquilegie, surfinie....adoro i fiori e questo giardino!

Also this year the hard work has given its fruits, fuchsia, columbine, petunia....I love flowers and this garden!

Meuble de métier

E' un tipico mobile di tradizione francese, con tanti cassetti profondi per mettere di tutto; non essendo riuscita a trovarlo vintage per via delle misure obbligate, ho deciso di farlo realizzare da una falegnameria artigiana. Devo ancora sistemare i fili nei cassetti più bassi, per ora ho riordinato le stoffe patch, i lini da ricamo, le passamanerie e i nastri...quanto mi piace !!

It's a tipical french furniture, with many deep drawers made to keep a lot of things; I could not find a vintage one because of the dimensions of my room, so I have decided to order it from an artisan. I still have to arrange all the threads in the upper drawers, for the moment I have put in the patchwork fabrics, linens and ribbons...I like it so much !!

Mi piace molto la pianta del melograno con i suoi bellissimi frutti, forse perchè mi ricorda mio padre che l'amava in modo particolare; così quando mi sono imbattuta in questo ricamo non ho potuto fare a meno di provare a realizzarlo, anche se ho dovuto cimentarmi in una tecnica a me del tutto nuova.

I materiali sono arrivati e il tessuto è un bellissimo raso di seta ecrù; questo lo stato di avanzamento.

Che ve ne pare ??

I really like the pomegranate plant with its beatifull fruits, maybe because it reminds me my father that loved it so much; so when I saw this embroidery I could not evitate to try to make it, also if this tecnique is new for me.

The materials are arrived, the fabric is a magnificent Italian silk satin ecrù; this is the status.

What do you think ?

L'ho realizzata per contenere le essenze che utilizzo a casa per dipingere la porcellana, non credevo di tribolare tanto, ci ho impiegato due giorni ! Ma sono soddisfatta del risultato...

Alla fine l'ho trovato !!! .....il mio colore ideale di lino sopratutto per i sampler, cercavo una tinta "caffè leggero" un pò disomogeneo nel colore ovvero con quei "puntini" tipici dei tessuti di una volta; peccato che c'è solo in 32 ct è della DMC colore 842 natural.

Ho cercato di fotografarlo al meglio (ingrandire) ha una tinta molto calda, bello!!

Finally I found it!!!...my ideal linen colour mostly for samplers, I was looking for a "light coffe" a little variegated like the vowen of old time fabrics; unfortunately is available only in 32 ct it's from DMC color 842 natural.

I've tryed to make a good picture (zoom it), has a very warm colour, lovely!!

CREWEL EMBROIDERY

Mi affascina molto il ricamo Crewel, soprattutto per la grande varietà di punti di ricamo classico che vengono utilizzati e per quel sapore antico così English; si ricama su un lino tessuto a mano in Scozia chiamato Twill con fili di lana, generalmente la Appleton Crewel.

E' un lavoro lungo e.... un giorno ....sarà una bellpull.

Grazie all'aiuto di un mio amico fotografo professionista che mi ha spiegato alcune cose fondamentali sulla mia macchina fotografica, ora i colori sono abbastanza reali, finalmenteee !!!

I am very fascinated by Crewel embroidery, mostly for the large variety of traditional embroidery stitches used and for his so English old taste; is worked on a heavy linen hand woven in Scotland called Twill using wool threads, generally Appleton Crewel.

It's a long work and....one day....will be a bellpull.

Thank you to a professional photographer my friend that explained me some important things about my camera , now the colors are nearly true !!!

Sono un pò delusa dalla qualità degli schemi, non costano poco e sembrano delle semplici fotocopie, inoltre i simboli sono veramente piccoli e sarà necessario fare un ingrandimento per poterci lavorare...chissà quando...

I have received two charts ordered from Kunst & Vliegwerk : the Netherlands 1778 and Mary Gumbrell Sampler 1820.

I'm a little disappointed about the quality of the charts, are not cheap and they look like a simple photocopy and the symbols are really very small and they need to be enlarged to be able to work with...who knows when....

C'è mancato veramente un soffio che la mia amatissima seta andasse a finire moolto male!!

La mia micia Holly, sembrava tranquilla, lì vicino a me a farmi compagnia mentre sceglievo dei colori, ma è bastato che mi allontanassi un secondo e....eccola quà pronta all'attacco.

Mi vengono i brividi solo a pensare come avrebbe potuto ridurle....

Mi girava in mente da tempo questa idea, c'è voluto parecchio lavoro per costruire lo schema ore ed ore, ma ne sono soddisfattissima, che ve ne pare?? sto pensando di pubblicarlo sul Blog appena capisco come fare.....

Il ricamo è ancora in alto mare però, sto utilizzando sempre la seta Pearsall's sul lino Bellora 2000 invecchiato.

I've been thinking about this idea for a long time, it took a lot of work to built the chart, many many hours, but know I'm very proud, do you like it?? I'm planning to edit it, just a little time to understand wich is the best way.

Anche questo sampler è stato rivisitato nei filati, dai Needlepoint che non mi piacciono per niente, alla seta Pearsall's e Silk Mori, il lino è l'Edimburgh cream di Zweigart, sempre invecchiato con thè e caffè.

Also for this sampler I have changed the silks; it was charted with Needlepoint but I don't like them so much, so I have converted in Pearsall's silks plus some Silk Mori.
The linen is a 35ct Edimburgh cream from Zweigart, overdyed to an old look by me with thè and coffe.

Mi sono "ingolfata" mai avuto tanti lavori iniziati tutti insieme !!

Ma non ho potuto resistere e quindi ecco il primo:

Mary Wigham per il quale ho utilizzato una mia conversione dai filati DMC proposti nello schema alle meravigliosa seta della Pearsall's, assolutamente da provare, mai visto nulla di più bello!!

Peccato che io sia una pessima fotografa e non riesca a rendergli giustizia con queste foto;

il lino è il Nuovo Ricamo della Graziano, opportunamente invecchiato con thè e caffè.

I never had so many projects all togheter !! but I could not resist, this is the first one: Mary Wigham, I have converted the DMC flosses into Pearsall's silks that I love; the linen is Graziano Nuovo Ricamo 38 ct, aged with thè and coffe.
